In vitro fertilisation (IVF)
What is In vitro fertilisation (IVF) ?
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a method of infertility treatment where the fertilization process takes place outside the woman's body. The oocyte is removed surgically (by transvaginal puncture of the ovaries) and fertilized with the spermatozoid obtained from the ejaculate under in vitro conditions.
IVF treatment types
Procedures carried out in assisted reproductive technology programs are as follows:
-
IVF;
-
ICSI;
-
IMSI, PICSI;
-
PGT - preimplantation genetic testing of embryos;
-
embryoscopy;
-
auxiliary hatching;
-
oocyte and sperm donation programs;
-
surrogacy.
For whom is In vitro fertilisation (IVF) indicated?
-
the absence of fallopian tubes or pathology of the fallopian tubes, which is not subject to a surgical correction, as well as in the absence of pregnancy within 6-8 months after the laparoscopic operation;
-
external endometriosis, if there is no effect within 6-8 months after laparoscopic and subsequent drug treatment;
-
male factor (pathology of seminal fluid, not subject to treatment or in the absence of pregnancy within 6 months after treatment with a urologist-andrologist);
-
decreased ovarian reserve (decrease of oocyte supply);
-
the woman's age over 37 years old;
-
the absence of uterus and ovaries;
-
in case of upcoming chemotherapy or radiation therapy to one of the spouses in order to preserve fertility;
-
the desire of the spouses to use the most effective method of infertility treatment.
In vitro fertilization is a technologically advanced and most effective method of treating infertility.
IVF process
-
1. Controlled ovarian stimulation
The in vitro fertilization procedure begins with the stimulation of ovulation. For this, hormonal medications are used. There are various protocols and stimulation schemes that are selected individually for the patient, depending on age, diagnosis, individual characteristics, the presence and effectiveness of previous stimulations, etc. The process of ovulation stimulation takes place under the control of transvaginal ultrasound scan. It makes it possible to assess the size and readiness of the follicles, if necessary, adjust the dose of drugs, as well as assess the thickness and structure of the endometrium.
-
2. Transvaginal follicle puncture
After the follicles have reached sufficient size, a transvaginal fine-needle puncture of the follicles of both ovaries is performed with the aspiration of the follicle contents to obtain eggs from it.
-
3. Fertilization of oocytes
There are two main methods of oocyte fertilization under laboratory conditions:
-
IVF - when a specially prepared sperm fraction is added to the eggs
-
ICSI - microinjection of one selected spermatozoid directly into the cytoplasm of the egg.
-
-
4. Cultivation of embryos
Fertilized eggs are placed in an incubator with a nutrient medium for further development, which lasts up to five or seven days.
-
5. Transfer of embryos
Embryo transfer is a painless procedure performed without anaesthesia under ultrasound control with a transabdominal transducer. The embryos are placed with a thin elastic catheter through the cervical canal into the uterine cavity. The number of transferred embryos depends on their quality, the age of the patient and the implantation capacity of the endometrium.
-
6. Diagnostics of pregnancy
Pregnancy is diagnosed by determining the level of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in the woman's blood 14 days after the transfer.
What are the IVF success rates at Nadiya Odessa fertility clinic?
According to the latest data at our clinic, the effectiveness of the ART procedure is 43% (such a high rate is due to the tactics of total ICSI).
Potential complications and risks
Due to the controlled ovarian stimulation, there is a risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. However, the use of the cycle fragmentation tactics (delayed embryo transfer) with a special injection ending the stimulation (a GnRH agonist trigger) completely allows avoiding hyperstimulation.
What is the cost of IVF?
Nadiya Odessa ivf clinic offers the following ivf programs:
-
IVF+ ICSI (1 cycle with preliminary medical examinations for future parents, ICSI)
-
IVF Genetics ( 1 cycle with PGT-A of 2 embryos, medicines for endometrium preparation for future mother up to 7 weeks of pregnancy, preliminary medical examinations for future parents included )
